EASA Private Pilot Licence

The aim of the PPL course is to train the student pilot to act as PIC or co-pilot under the Visual Flight Rules.

Pre-entry requirements

Minimum age

The minimum age before going solo is 16 years of age. An applicant for a Part-FCL PPL(A) shall be at least 17 years old, but some of the required qualifications for the grant of the licence may be gained earlier.

Educational requirements

No formal academic qualifications are required, however, students will benefit from a having a basic understanding of Maths and Physics.

Medical requirements

Before going solo students must hold a valid medical certificate issued in accordance with Part-MED.

Note: Part-MED stipulates that applicants for and holders of the PPL(A) shall hold a valid Class One or Class Two medical certificate.

General requirements

The HT will assess all trainees before they start the PPL(A) training to ensure they meet all Part-FCL requirements.

Language requirements

The student must be competent in the use of the English language before training commences. The following language exams are acceptable: ICAO ELPexam, Hungarian or other State Exam, academic or business English exam, or license from a native English country. If no proof of English knowledge exists, Multify Kft may organize an internal English examination for the proposed student.

A student must demonstrate evidence of English language proficiency equivalent to at least ICAO Level 4, before application for a practical exam.

Flying training (single engine)

The EASA PPL(A) course consists of 45 hours flight instruction, comprising:

  • 35 hours dual instruction.
  • 10 hours supervised solo flight time, including 5 hours of solo cross-country -flight time with at least 1 cross-country flight of at least 270km (150nm), with full stop landings at 2 aerodromes different from the aerodrome of departure.
  • EASA PPL(A) Skill Test.
  • The Skill Test is in addition to the course syllabus hours


AMC1 FCL210; FCL.215 requires that the theoretical knowledge course for the PPL(A) shall comprise at least 100 hours of theoretical knowledge instruction provided by the ATO. This should include (as a mix of classroom training and self-studyfollowed by classroom consolidation) certain element of formal classroom work but may include also such facilities as interactive video, slide or tape presentation, computer-based training, and other media distance learning courses.

  • Principles of Flight

  • Flight Performance and Planning
  • Air Law and ATC Procedures
  • Operational Procedures
  • Human Performance

The time scale

A full-time course of flight training for a PPL(A) is expected to take at least five weeks to complete. However, in most cases, course length will be dictated by the student’s availability.

Skill Tests

The student must have completed all syllabus items, Progress Tests and must be recommended by the course instructor before attempting the PPL(A) Skill Test. A PPL Flight Examiner (FE) who must NOT have completed any of the student’s training will conduct the Skill Test. The purpose of the Skill Test is to enable the trainee to demonstrate, through the completion of a Skill Test, the ability to perform,as PIC on aeroplanes,all the relevant procedures and manoeuvres with competency appropriate to the privileges granted.

The Skill Test does not form part of the minimum training hours required for the PPL(A) course, nor is it classed as an instructional flight, therefore debrief, and explanatory comments should not be included in the flight training records. Only in the unlikely event of failure should a comprehensive report be written on the trainee’s performance.

Theoretical Knowledge Examinations

Applications and fee must be received by the NTAAA not less than 7 days before the date of the examination session.

Knowledge of theoretical training is verified and reviewed by writing the EASA PPL(A) Theoretical Knowledge Exams(TKEs). The pass mark is 75% in each of the main subjects of the syllabus. The examination shall be administered by NTAAA and shall be conducted in a quiet environment, free from interruption. An invigilator shall be provided. All examinations will be conducted in accordance with national competent authority procedures.
